From Cathy:
How come everyone else is friggin' retired and Cathy is starting a new job at the age of 66?????????

I taught swimming, golf and aerobics, and after 8 years as Manager of the gift shop at the local hospital, I decided to start my own business. In July of 2008, Washington's first true retail store in many years opened in the old Penney's building. It's called "The Village". Please stop in and see me when you're in town!

Married 48 years to Jim, an attorney. Oldest daughter Lisa has 2 kids at the University of Iowa and lives in Iowa City.(After being in California and Pennsylvania when the kids were little, they finally moved back to Iowa when the kids were 15 and 17 and could give a rat's ass about their grandparents, so I never got much of a chance to spoil them!) Jennifer lives in Scottsdale, Arizona with her husband and step-son.

My mother will soon be 95...I am convinced that she will outlive me!

I continue to be as active as I can...still golfing, biking and swimming...but had to give up jogging because my thighs kept rubbing together and setting my shorts on fire!

Really looking forward to seeing you all again soon...and many, many thanks to the committee for this wonderful site...and especially to Margarette who kept bugging me to post something!

50 years--WOW!

Danny and I will celebrate our 50th anniversary this year.  We've been blessed with a son and a daughter and two grandchildren.  Our children and our siblings live within a 50 mile radius so we enjoy making memories with them .

I enjoy quilting, reading, and camping.  The Iowa Stte Fair is our family vacation--we love it!

Since 1960, I've been employed as a receptionist at a medical office, an insurance company's office manager/bookkeeper, an elementry school's offfice secretary, and library-media secretary and Director of the Wellman-Scofield Public Library.

I became restless after a few years of retirement so I sub at our elementary pre-school.  Yes, children still 'teach' me a lot of things.

Technology is great, but I have taken a 'leave of absence' from computers since being involved with setting up/trouble shooting the computer lab at the elementary and the public library (30 years total.)

My plans are uncertain for our reunion.  I have the dates on my calendar

I am fortunate to have a job that I really enjoy doing.  I have slowed down and I am semi-retired.  I collect old toy trains, mainly post-war Lionel, Marx, and American Flyer.

I still enjoy fishing, but don't work at it as hard as I used to!

Greetings from the SENIOR member of the class to those somewhat younger. I am the only member of the 1960 class who is also a member of the class of 1944.

I dropped out of school in my Junior year to help my parents with living expenses.  Thirteen years later, I decided to return to school and receive a high school Diploma. I will never forget the wonderful reception exhibited by the members of the class and the teachers.  It was an experience to be remembered the remainder of my life. I love each one of you for it!

On June 7, 1947, I married Donald E. Smith.  We had two children:  Beverly Kay, born March 25, 1948 and Stephen Donald, born on July 1, 1951.  Don died very suddenly, (acute pancreatitis) on July 3, 1973.  On October 7, 1978, I married Jack Bonham and moved to Denver, Colorado for 6 years.  Jack's wife, Lois, died in 1977, (Cancer).  He took early retirement from Dowell Division of Dow Chemical Company in 1984 and we moved back to Washington.  Jack has two children, Judy, 55, and Lesa, 53.  We have 10 grandchildren, and at last count, 24 great-grandchildren.

I continue to work full time as an Abstractor, now in my 38th year.  I love the work and the challenges if often presents.

Jack is semi-retired, working at a bookkeeping job 3-4 hours daily, and keeps bank accounts for 3 businenesses on his home computer.

From Dolores:

I have been retired from nursing since January 2004. I worked at the U of I Student Health for 30 years as the Assistant Nurse Manager. Before that I worked at Mercy Hospital as a Nursing Supervisor on the medical floor and 11/2 years in a private office with 2 doctors. I really enjoyed my nursing career and expecially working with the college students.

I met my husband, Frank,  in Iowa City when I was a student nurse and we were married in 1963 when I graduated. He is from Iowa City  and we have always lived here .

My husband retired in August 2004. He was in law enforcement with the LC. Police Dept and then  an investigator for the Dept. of Corrections for his career. In fact, our son is the third generation in law enforcement on my husband's side of the family.

We both work part time for a local real estate developer and do their open houses. It is very flexible with our schedules, and gives us an outlet for something new and different.

We have two children, a son and a daughter and four grandchildren, 3 boys and 1 girl. They live in the area so we attend all their events and enjoy them immensely. We also help out with appts etc. if their parents need us.

Our daughter is a substitute elementary education teacher and our son is  with the DCI.

I like to read, enjoy the Hawkeyes & travel, going to Arizona in the winter for a month or so. Although this year we are going to Florida and  our daughter and family will come over spring break to go to Disney and the theme parks. When I retired I went on a cruise to Alaska and took the train thru Denali National Park and ended in Fairbanks. It is truly the last frontier. I have a friend with a lake home iin Ws. and go there every summer and fall. We still want to go to the New England states, and I'd like to go to Ireland as my mother's family was from there.

It will be so nice to see everyone at our 50th! Thanks to the committee for all your work and planning for this big event !
